Spring Assembly in April 2010

DOK Spring Assembly
St Peter & St Paul, Arlington
April 18, 2009

The Assembly was opened with Holy Communion celebrated by the Right Reverend Jack L. Iker.

After Holy Communion, the members of the Order met and were presented with the nominees for the Diocesan Board. As there was only one person nominated for each poistion and there were no nominations from the floor, the following officers were elected by acclamation:

President - Dorothy Gregory
Vice President - Georgette Lopez-Aguado
Secretary - Barbara Mills
Treasurer - Beverly Maurer

Dorothy asked her rector, Fr. David Klein, to be the new Diocesan DOK Chaplain. Bishop Iker installed the new board.

Dorothy gave a report of the Diocesan DOK funds. The $4405.75 was divided evenly between the now two DOKs, since some decided to stay with TEC. Our charter will be changed to reflect our new alliance and the Board will meet every six weeks.

Fr. Jay Atwood, former Diocesan DOK Chaplain asked us all to pray for this diocese and the National DOK.

Fr. Klein closed the meeting with a prayer.

Lunch followed, then a talk by Summer Twyman, who is a SAMS/SOMA missionary candidate, about child slavery in Honduras. The offering was designanted to help her go to Honduras in the fall.

ACNA IS BORN !!
by Julie Cosgrove, DOK Diocesan Commnunications

On June 24, 2009, the day of the Nativity of John the Baptist, Archbishop Duncan was invested as the first Anglican Archbishop for the newly formed Anglican Church in North America (ACNA).

In his sermon, Archbishop Duncan expounded on the song of Zechariah, who was John the Baptist's father, in Luke 1:67-80:

"And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord
to prepare the way for him to give his people knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God by which the rising sun will come to us form heaven to shine on those in darkness..." vs 76-79

He stated that is exactly what we are called to do as God's children in this new Anglican province - to prepare the way for people to come to Christ because He is the Way to forgivenss and light. He challenged us to birth 1000 churches over the next five years, to be Jesus' hands and feet among the sick, the naked, the widow, the homeless and the imprisoned and to engage Islam and secularism so to expose them as false teachings. But in order to do that we must all return to taking Scripture to heart because you can not live it if you do not know it.

He told us to enmbrace what we have always beleived in and not to waver in that, but to be open to the different ways we Anglicans world wide express those beliefs in worship. The Eucharist service reflected that. More than 300 priests, bishops and archbishops from all over the world were there in Christ Church, Plano which was packed to capacity- over 2500 souls in total. When we all sang the Doxology and then the contemporary praise hymn Shout to The Lord- the place trembled with the Holy Spirit. Powerful doesn't begin to wrap it's arms around the experience. Awed, humbled, over flowing with tears of joy- perhaps gets a bit closer. A tiny inkling of what Heaven will be with all those voices praising God together? Better yet.

Our new logo is a globe showing North America with the shield of St George superimposed on it. To view pictures and read about all the happenings at the Inagural Assembly, go to www.theacna.org. and click on the gray box on the upper left.

Please continue to pray the Novena regularly (found under the Prayers tab on this DOK site) for ACNA, our dicosese and parishes.

NOVENA

Jesus, Good Shepherd,
You sent us the Holy Spirit to guide Your Church
and lead her faithful to You through the ministry of Your priests.
We lift up our prayer to You, O Lord.

Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, grant to Archbishop Duncan,
Archbishop Venables, Bishop Iker, and the priests and deacons of this diocese
wisdom in leading,
faithfulness in teaching,
and holiness in guarding Your sacred Mysteries.
We lift up our prayer to You, O, Lord.

As they cry out with all the faithful, "Abba, Father!"
may Your priests be ever more closely identified with You
in Your divine Sonship in whatever may come,
and offer their own lives with You, the one saving Victim.
We lift up our prayer to You, O Lord.

Guard the parishes, their properties and their hearts against those
who seek to snatch them away for the sake of agendas not Your own.
Give wisdom to the attorneys as they seek wise counsel.
But mostly, Lord and Savior, let us all be witnesses to Your Truth in all circumstances.
We lift up our prayer to You, O, Lord.

Holy Mary, intercede for your priests.
St. Joseph, protect them.
St. Michael, defend them.
St. John, pray for them.
Lord Christ, intercede for them.
Holy Spirit gird them up.
Heavenly Father, give them peace.
We lift up our prayer to You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Prayer Of The Order
0 eternal Father, you have sent us your son to teach us things pertaining to your heavenly Kingdom, give your blessing to our Order wherever it may be throughout the world. Grant that we, your Daughters, ever may discern your truth and bear the cross through the battles of our earthly life. Give us strength to overcome temptation and the grace to work to spread your Kingdom and to gather your scattered sheep within your fold. Pour out upon us the sevenfold gift of the Holy Spirit that we may always remember it is your work we are called upon to do; that all we think, do or say may be pleasing in your sight. We ask it all For His Sake, our King and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Weekly Devotional
Authoritative Prayer

"May people ever pray for him and bless him all day long." Psalm 72:15

Our nation is a divided one and has been for years. Red states, blue states. But whoever is in office, whoever sits in the Senate or the House or behind the benches of the Supreme Court need our prayers. Whoever governs the state where you live, or the town, or the school board needs your prayers. Have you prayed for them regularly?

If we are to remain one nation under God we must be indivisible through prayer. The person in office may not have your beliefs, values or political support, but God is very clear that we are to pray for them and that all people in authority are there for a reason. We must humble ourselves to His wishes and pray for those in authority even though they seem ungodly. We are a blessed nation, one of the wealthiest in the world. Yet we are often barren in our beliefs, personal disciplines and lifestyles. America is the new mission field. America needs prayer. So do our leaders.

Heavenly Father, our times, our nation, our states and our towns are in Your Hands and we lift up those in authority. You are a God of wonder, of promises and second chances. If these officials do not know you, we pray their heart may be turned so that they may come to know Your Son as their Savior to rule over their decisions. If they have strayed, we pray that Your voice will lead them back. If they bend a knee every morning to you, we pray that You will give them strength to follow You in all circumstances and be a beacon of justice and truth.. Until the day comes when Your Son returns and every knee shall bow, keep this land in Your sight and under your protective wings and teach us to pray daily for it and those who govern it. Amen.

"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." Romans 13:1

"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn form their wicked ways, then I will forgive their sin and I will heal their land."
2 Chronicles 7:14
