Events

From the Bishop
Statement on Sept. 9, 2009, court hearing
In a hearing this morning before Judge John Chupp in the 141st District Court in Tarrant County, our attorney filed a motion that requires the lawyers who have brought litigation against us to prove that they had the legal authority to bring the suit. They moved for a continuance, which the Judge denied.
At 10 a.m. Judge Chupp adjourned the hearing due to the fact that a jury trial in another case was scheduled to resume in his court. The hearing on our Rule 12 motion will reconvene at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
Please continue to keep this situation in your daily prayers, and pray for Judge Chupp and attorney Shelby Sharpe by name. As you did last Sunday, please pray during worship this week. For those who are able, fasting as well as prayer will be appropriate and appreciated on the 16th.

Prayers

NOVENA For ACNA, our dioceses, parishes and missions

Jesus, Good Shepherd,
You sent us the Holy Spirit to guide Your Church
and lead her faithful to You through the ministry of Your priests.
We lift up our prayer to You, O Lord.

Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, grant to Archbishop Duncan,
Archbishop Venables, Bishop Iker, and the priests and deacons of this diocese
wisdom in leading,
faithfulness in teaching,
and holiness in guarding Your sacred Mysteries.
We lift up our prayer to You, O, Lord.

As they cry out with all the faithful, "Abba, Father!"
may Your priests be ever more closely identified with You
in Your divine Sonship in whatever may come,
and offer their own lives with You, the one saving Victim.
We lift up our prayer to You, O Lord.

Guard the parishes, their properties and their hearts against those
who seek to snatch them away for the sake of agendas not Your own.
Give wisdom to the attorneys as they seek wise counsel.
But mostly, Lord and Savior, let us all be witnesses to Your Truth in all circumstances.
We lift up our prayer to You, O, Lord.

Holy Mary, intercede for your priests.
St. Joseph, protect them.
St. Michael, defend them.
St. John, pray for them.
Lord Christ, intercede for them.
Holy Spirit gird them up.
Heavenly Father, give them peace.
We lift up our prayer to You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

ECW / DOK / Altar Guild Congress
THE ANNUAL ECW CONGRESS is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Church of
the Holy Apostles in Fort Worth. This gathering is for all women of the
diocese and their clergy. It is the one event that brings together the
diocesan Altar Guild, Daughters of the King, and ECW leadership. Please
encourage all interested women to attend; the Congress is a wonderful
opportunity for fellowship. Registration begins at 9 o'clock in the morning.
Bishop Iker will preside at the Holy Eucharist at 9:30 a.m.; this service
will include the ARDF ingathering. After a coffee break, the keynote address
will be presented by Debbie Petta. The program also includes lunch and a
brief business meeting. Registration forms will be available online and by
distribution to churches beginning next week.

Almighty God, who sittest on the throne judging right: We humbly beseech thee to bless the courts of justice and the magistrates of this land, especially the 141st District Court in Fort Worth, the Honorable John Chupp, presiding; and give unto them the spirit of wisdom and understanding, that they may discern the truth, and impartially administer the law in the fear of thee alone: And we most humbly beseech thee, O heavenly Father, to send down upon our attorney Shelby Sharpe the spirit of wisdom, charity, and justice; that with steadfast purpose he may faithfully serve thee in the representation of the people of this diocese; through him who shall come to judge the quick and the dead and the world by fire, even Jesus Christ our Lord.

Holding a Chapter Event? Let Us Know!

If your Chapter is having a quiet day or a speaker, or you would like one to visit your Chapter, contact Julie Cosgrove at jjcosgrove@att.net. We will post your event on this site so all the Daughters can have the option to attend. Coming to each other's Chapter events help us to grow together and share.

Please encourage the Daughters in your Chapter to look on this site often for upcoming events and go to them as a group. Your sisters in Christ would love to see you there.

The Prayer Of The Order
0 eternal Father, you have sent us your son to teach us things pertaining to your heavenly Kingdom, give your blessing to our Order wherever it may be throughout the world. Grant that we, your Daughters, ever may discern your truth and bear the cross through the battles of our earthly life. Give us strength to overcome temptation and the grace to work to spread your Kingdom and to gather your scattered sheep within your fold. Pour out upon us the sevenfold gift of the Holy Spirit that we may always remember it is your work we are called upon to do; that all we think, do or say may be pleasing in your sight. We ask it all For His Sake, our King and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Praise First

by Julie Cosgrove

Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!
Let them extol him in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.   Psalm 102:31-32

Most church services start off with singing. Everyone standing, raises their voices to Heaven. That is praise. That's extolling God. It is uplifting for the spirit and sets the mood for worship.
Whenever the faithful gather, the first thing they should do is praise God. Even in the assembly of the elders, or the meeting over the budget, or the planning of the snacks for Sunday school kids.  How often do we gather in the House of the Lord for meetings that start out with milling around, a little gossip and then getting down to business? Even if we pray first as we assemble, is it  praise-ful? It should be.
Not because God needs His ego stroked, or needs to be invoked like some mystic spirit.   But because we need an attitude adjustment. We need to set the mood - the tone of the meeting together. We need to be reminded whom it is we are serving and His steadfast love for us as His people.
I once heard the proper order for prayer is PRAYING - Praise, Recounting, Atonement ,Yielding, Intercession, Needs, Glory.
We praise God from whom all mercies flow, we recall His past acts of love and redemption, we confess and atone for our sins and failing not do His will, and we yield our souls once again to Him.  From there we can intercede for one another and pray for our own needs. Finally we glorify Him and thank Him for His goodness. As you read the Psalms, you will see they often follow this pattern.
The next time your committee meets whether it is in the Church building, the classrooms,  in a home or even at a restaurant, begin with prayerfully praising Him. After all, He is the reason you are gathering together. Set the tone of the meeting extolling His grace and mercy.  You'll be pleasantly  surprised how little quibbling goes on and how much you get done.  It just may work for those family pow-wows as well.
Praise God from whom all  blessings flow. Praise Him all creatures here below. Praise Him above ye Heavenly hosts. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.
