DOK meets the first Tuesday
of each month at 6:30 pm for dinner and meeting. Check the general calendar
for specific dates each month.
Bring a friend! The September meeting will be on the third at the home of Mary Howard, and will be an ice cream social welcoming the women of the church as we begin a new year of service, prayer and evangelism. Jayne Adams leads the group for the 2008-09 year.
Our membership chose to take the name of St. Lucy as our chapter name. In addition to the strengths of our patron saint, it seems especially appropriate to choose this name as it honors the memory of one of our original Daughters, Lucy Schunter, who was passionate about living long enough to be inducted into our new DOK chapter.
St.
Lucy (Lucia) is known as the patron saint of light and of the blind. Prayer: Saint Lucy, you did not hide your light under a basket, but let it
shine for the whole world, for all the centuries to see. We may not suffer
torture in our lives the way you did, but we are still called to let the
light of our Christianity illumine our daily lives. Please help us to have
the courage to bring our Christianity into our work, our recreation, our
relationships, our conversation -- every corner of our day. Amen

The Daughters of Ascension and St. Mark's was instituted in July, 2003. This group, which focuses on service and prayer, seeks your support as they explore ideas of service to our church and community.
With service as one of the cornerstones of the group, please share ideas of projects you may know of. Past service projects have included:
Coloring books and crayons for children at Wise Regional Hospital who spend time in waiting rooms or as patients.
Senior Angels living in area nursing homes were honored with gift packs at the holiday season.
Support of church events, including feeding workers preparing for the garage sale.
College kids "goodies" baskets.
Welcome cups for visitors.
Support of the Prison Ministry gift exchange at Christmas, which delivered gifts purchased by inmates to their children who reside in Wise County.
Activity folders for children to use during the service which have coloring pages and word games based on the current lectionary or church season.
Prayer request cards are available in the narthex, and may be placed in the offeratory plate for blessing. They will then be added to the DOK prayer request list. Confidentiality of your requests is honored by all members of the order.
Please support these projects any way you can.
